A green man is a sculpture, drawing or other representation of a face surrounded by or made from leaves.

The green man motif has many variations and is found in many cultures across the world. In the UK the green man was a pagan symbol, primarily it is interpreted as a symbol of rebirth representing the cycle of regrowth each spring.

This pagan symbol was adopted into Christianity and you can find examples of green men carved in wood, stone or plaster, in churches, chapels and abbeys across the country

Embar Pottery Green Man wall plaques are designed as garden ornaments and come with screw holes to be attached to your fence or wall.

They are all fully frost proof (even through the recent interesting british winters!)

Each of our Green Man wall plaques are handmade freehand (we don't use a mould). This means that each man is individual and has its own character. Some are happy cheerful chaps, some are grumpy looking and some have the more traditional gruesome quality!

We make Green Man wall Plaques in different sizes and finishes. There is the raw sandy texture finish shown in the top picture.

A matt glazed finish shown above right, and a Raku glaze finish (which has a mettalic sheen) shown above left.

See the gallery below of various green men we have made. If you can't find what you are looking for in our Etsy shop please contact us as we usually have a number of green men in stock, but only a small selection online at any one time.

Each Green man Plaque is unique and the one you choose from our shop is the actual plaque you receive.
